Comic Signings | Stephen's Triumphant Detective!

09.15.2018 – There are many hardworking artists in the Philippines that just under the radar rarely getting much attention. One of those certain individuals are underrated if not just want to keep a humble perspective in life when it comes to living the dream. Stephen Segovia is one of those artists who just keep churning in good stuff.

His dream of doing work on DC Comics’ Trinity of Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman has been fulfilled, a personal goal that has been realized when he finished work on Detective Comics #988 ahead of Batman Day, the signing event was held at the newly re-located Comic Odyssey in Robinsons Galleria.

The typhoon Mangkhut (Philippine name: Ompong) didn’t dampen Friday night’s festivities as Comic Odyssey hosted a signing event featuring Stephen Segovia of Detective Comics #988. Its one of the three issues that he’s working on with James Robinson as the artist, who has done previous art projects for Action Comics and recently with Wonder Woman.

Stephen reveals as a personal goal to do work on DC Comics has been fulfilled with Detective Comics #988 and he has other deadlines pending. The reception on Friday night was a good turn out despite the arrival of the typhoon. The regulars at Comic Odyssey were present to support Stephen’s work. Chief among his friends is Leinil Yu, who was fresh from doing Captain America with Gerry Alanguilan.

More Deadlines and More Projects

Though Stephen didn’t reveal any future projects, he also did interiors for Valiant during Free Comic Book Day as well as one of the covers of Shadowman’s first issue. He shares he would like to do more covers for the series. He just keeps mum of what’s next for him as he still enjoys doing his three issue run with Detective Comics.

He shares how he enjoyed doing Shadowman with a modern twist away from the classic 1990s version. It was evident that his work definitely made the character relevant again when Valiant released the FCBD 2018 edition.

Future Con Appearances

Stephen’s next public appearance will be at this November 2018’s Komikon and has mentioned foreign convention appearances, but this will depend on the deadlines on his upcoming projects as he would like to keep things under wraps.

Currently, he’s just living the dream of a comic book artist who is appreciating every moment with regards to opportunity. Towards the end of the signing he sponsored posters that he brought from the South Korean Comic-Con 2018 as the raffle prizes.

It should be that Batman Day is suppose to happen this weekend, but was moved to 22 September 2018 in partnership with FullyBooked as many events happening altogether. But this signing event featuring Stephen Segovia is a perfect consolation as an early Batman Day event in promoting his work for Detective Comic #988!
