Movie Review | Toy Story 4

06.24.2019 – The fourth installment of Toy Story was unexpected that the third film was the final act that closed the franchise. But Pixar Studios had other plans not being done with the adventures of Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and friends that was something fans, kids, and parents growing up seeing the franchise for the past 25 years.

Definitely, there’s no doubt this fourth film is an emotional ride as revealed by Tom Hanks who voiced Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear. If you’ve witnessed Andy growing up from a young boy to a college student, the characters themselves have their unique evolution and growth that never was the same for everyone to see.

There’s a saying the only thing that’s permanent is “change” and every succeeding Toy Story film that came out since the first one in 1995 was the constant growth not only for Andy but his toys that has been his companion since childhood.

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD! If you haven’t seen Toy Story 4 you know the drill, but then again you’ll just ignore it anyway so carry on…

The announcement of Toy Story 4 was welcoming surprise in 2017 and now the film is here it was revelry of everything about the franchise. Pixar certainly has great stories not only with Toy Story but with each film they produced. The heart of every film was the unique storytelling and the emotional weight it carries.

If you’re a fan of Toy Story and hoping things would be the same guess again, nothing will be ever the same with this film. Some would say this is the last one, but surely there will be story ideas that will pop up, for now, this was an emotional high and low that given Toy Story something fans have never seen before.

Toy Story Forky

At the heart of the narrative is one character that is not even a toy, but a spork and it was a joke or a pun to say the latest installment about Toy Story is about Forky that is going through existential crisis of what to define himself when he came to life as a toy made out of homemade parts from Bonne’s school arts and craft.

Tony Hale gave life to this character who doesn’t know what he has become. An interesting perspective about what if an ordinary utensil becomes a toy that has enough confusion and hilarity that made this an interesting sequel.

Keanu Goes CaBoom!

The year 2019 is where Keanu Reeves has become “America’s Sweetheart” even though he declines this title because of the films that came out this year starting with John Wick 3 that also includes lending his likeness and voice to an upcoming videogame that was revealed in the recently concluded E3.

Now you have Reeves as Duke CaBoom! Canada’s Greatest Stuntman that was a scene stealer in this film. The year may not be over until you see Bill & Ted: Face the Music, but CaBoom is where’s at for Toy Story that was highly anticipated and could probably the favorite toy this coming Christmas.

Reached for the Sky

But with all the working parts of this film, it was the story of Woody the character development he has gone through over the previous film and this one. Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are friends for life and so is Woody and Buzz which is the core of Toy Story that has given viewers the emotional highs and the lows with laughs in-between.

It might look like the end but there will never be like Toy Story that change the animated feature film’s landscape with regard to Computer Graphics. It was ahead of its time in 1995 and it is still ahead of everyone when it comes to the story that also welcomed a familiar face with Bo Peep and other interesting characters like Ducky and Bunny. Clearly, the best feature film for 2019 belongs to Toy Story 4.

Overall an emotional roller coaster ride of the emotional spectrum that will stick to a young kid’s memory or a fan that grew up seeing the franchise. Toy Story is a generational animated feature film that reached for the sky to infinity and beyond.
