TransFormers + Ghostbusters | Ghosts of Cybertron

06.29.2019 – The 1980s was the golden era of modern pop culture in the 20th Century with properties introduced from animation, movies, videogames, and merchandise. In that era, there are two of those properties introduced in cinema and television that continues to be relevant in other forms of media.

Ghostbusters and Transformers have built upon the cult following with their respective brands that still are marketable and after thirty-five years has been relevant. But what if both of these properties put together a “Collaborative” symbiosis that gives birth to something fresh and out of this world?

Early in 2019’s New York International Toy Fair Hasbro revealed what would be a tie-up with that property and that is with the Ghostbusters brand introducing a newly created Transformers character inspired with the elements of Ghostbusters that would become the Autobot Ectotron that turns into the iconic Ecto-1.

A few months forward to today with IDW Publication revealing that there’s going to be a crossover mini-series featuring these two brands that presented Ectotron!

The new member of the Autobots appearing in the first issue of the comicbook series was based on the "Collaborative" toy that will be released soon and the comicbook has been released globally to your nearest comic shops and surprised everyone this past week.

Transformers-Ghostbusters™: Ghost of Cybertron Part 1 begins as the way the classic G1 series with a bit of twist that both properties exist in a single universe. The Autobots escapes their home planet of Cybertron, but the difference this time the Decepticons didn’t follow to take them out. Instead, there was an interdimensional traveler from another realm that would be the familiar Gozer that not only is made of supernatural energy but has alien aesthetics.

Visually the narrative with the writing team of Erik Burnham and art by Dan Schoening crafts a fresh new story were both properties exist and comes together with this unique tale that features Ectotron and the experts of Spook Central. The artwork has more of the classic Generation One cartoon feels at the same time with a modern adaptation of the beloved characters.

The cover variants featuring Nick Roche and Alex Milne put together a new series hardly people would notice until it was already available in their local shops. The interaction between Ectotron with the rest of the Autobots makes you want to think this one has been part of the Ark crew although in this universe they didn’t crash during the Stone Age. But gives you a new perspective on how they’re going to tackle new threats not only of a mechanical kind but also the supernatural.

Overall new adventures await for Ectotron and his newfound allies that are ready for you to believe in them not only to bust some ghostly elements but also the Decepticon kind that won’t stay dead with the big bad awaiting to make things worse for the good guys and the humanity of Earthly proportions.

RATING: 8.5
