Movie Review | Sonic the Hedgehog
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD! If you haven’t seen Sonic the Hedgehog you know the drill, but then again you’ll just ignore it anyway so carry on…
For an alien-looking hedgehog there’s nothing different about Sonic it is just he’s too fast with that blue furry looking adorable personality as voiced by Ben Schwartz known for portraying Jean-Ralphio Saperstein on the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation in bringing to life the mischievous-ness of the character.
But what makes this a home run is how James Mardsen is always being portrayed second fiddle to the animated characters in the film and this is not the first time he is paired to a character later added to post-production. The “Donut King” clearly has his moments as well as the Pretzel Lady aka Maddie Wachowski portrayed by Tika Sumpter, who is known for serious roles gets some comedic time dealing with Sonic in some of her best moments in this film.
Though it might be overstated that Jim Carrey ‘is back’ to what he does best with his impovs nothing like bringing back the Classic Carrey that everyone used to know that almost stolen Sonic’s thunder as the mad genius Doctor Robotnik. Altogether this film won’t be the final product most fans have been raving about despite its underrated to the majority of the movie going public.
Overall Sonic the Hedgehog is a sure fire hit that certainly deserve a second look and introduces new fans to the mythology and the chance to play the classic Sega games that popularized the character. It may have the usual narrative, but what makes it a memorable film is the performance of the cast that takes it up to a notch. Don’t ignore the mid-credit scenes it surely not the Tails you should not miss.
Sonic the Hedgehog is now playing in cinemas across Southeast Asia including the Philippines beginning 19 February 2020 with the rest of the world HERE world from Warner Bros Pictures, and distributed by Village Roadshow in Australia.Catch it at Palace Nova Cinema at Eastend or Prospect.
