Happy Meal Asia | UNO + Anime

McDonald’s in Southeast Asia has diverse synergies and different markets under one region. It may not be like in Oceania with Australia and New Zealand, but with the way things work with cultural relatability, certain franchises or IPs are well known in this side of the region. This adds a unique difference between the toys released on the other side of the globe.

In capturing the right audience, McDonald’s Asian rollout at the start of the year was inspired by popular anime from Japan, with Crayon Shin-Chan last month, and now, a collaboration between Mattel’s iconic card games with UNO and two Anime Series!

These two popular anime series are based on their own Manga titles. My Hero Academia and Spy X Family have been popular in the West. But more known in Southeast Asia with their own stories that have gotten a good reception from Southeast Asian countries, and have been produced into various merchandise.

But with the recent surge in popularity of Japanese culture, featuring some of their well-known IPs, McDonald’s Asia is also bringing some of those collectibles to a wider Asian audience, as these are just recent Happy Meal collectibles in Japan with slight changes in packaging.

They are exactly released in Japan, minus the “blind pack” that was packaged with every UNO card set. There are three types of UNO card games, which feature the traditional UNO cards.

The other two variations are the UNO Flip and the UNO All-Wild cards that depict images of the characters from My Hero Academia and Spy X Family.

In the Philippines, these sets of UNO cards started selling today, following the popularity of the Crayon Shin-Chan Happy Meal set of toys depicting the character through various mischievous fantasies working as a McDonald’s staff member.

For more about your latest Happy Meal set of toys, check your local McDonald's in your area or region, which has its current toys, books, or collectibles

UNO x Anime is now available from March 6th in the Philippines, for the rest of the month or until stocks last
