Filipino Komiks has been around that has become part of the culture, and with that the history has been a challenging narrative by itself. These days mainstream people would immediately say they no longer exist due to that local book shops have slowly stop carrying graphic novels published by local and foreign publication. But there are still a community that keeps that culture alive, and most of them have been their relatives of these creators carrying their legacy to continue and remind people that they’re not going to be forgotten that easily. Because without this constant reminder of the past there won’t be a country that will remember that it happened.

10.23.2019 – Pop Culture Conventions are the next event happenings in Metro Manila with the recent success of previous ‘Cons’ brought interest to local fans who are into anything and everything Popular Culture chances are there’s one happening next month and that is the EBC Pop Con 2019. The Inaugural event is part of the 50th Anniversary of Eagle Broadcasting Corporation the company that owned the NET 25 channel on television. They have revealed this upcoming event that featured local personalities from the pop culture scene.

03.03.2019 – Pop Hub MNL is a Mash-Up Event that features Filipino Popular Culture, which is a weekend event happening at the SMX Convention Centre in Pasay City that is part of the bigger event that is happening for the Manila international Bookfair on its fortieth year. Established in 2018 is not just about Cosplay and Merchandise it is an event that spotlights the local artistry and they just announced the guests!

06.03.2019 – The 90th Anniversary celebration for Kenkoy has begun. If you missed the weeklong celebration that began in FEU last month there’s still a chance you can catch the pocket tours that not only to celebrate the character’s first comic strip. But also meet a few local artists and illustrators. SM Manila and Kenkoy collaborate not only to celebrate the first Filipino komiks, but ahead of the Philippine Independence Day. The New DI-13 #2 | Deep Into Black Dragon

05.17.2019 – The New DI-13 Series is heading to its sophomore issue in slowly taking shape what could be an underrated revival of one of the best locally produced series in Philippine Komiks. Currently, the local scene is more popular nowadays with the supernatural Filipino folklore. But when it comes to crime, espionage, and political thriller this genre is solely more popular with internationally published works such as Velvet by Ed Brubaker or his run with Captain America that featured Bucky’s return as Winter Soldier for Marvel. Although these popular themes have continue to make an interesting read this part of the Philippines has not forgotten that before Aswangs and Manananggals there was DI-13 or Department of Investigation that made concept an interesting even before James Bond was a household name more than seventy years ago. The second issue is divided between flashbacks and modern times where the second Agent 13, the grandson of the original is in search of his long lost grandfather.
