Arte Bettina | Beyond the Event Horizon

The art toy community is a very niche interest in the Philippines, and it is rare to discover a toy designer who has made it to well-known art galleries that can be found in commercial spaces. But it is considered a rare feat to be seen in these locations few would find in a standalone gallery or major art fairs. Dondi Fernandez finally gets his spotlight with his latest solo art exhibition. He has been known internationally through the ever-growing Art Toy industry in Asia having produced his limited edition creations as far back as 2018. Now, he's in the EVent Horizon bring is new creations at Arte Bettina with his latest exhibit.

12.02.2019 – Hari Sonik has made a triumphant return to Secret Fresh in style of what Elmer Borlongan aka Emongsky has put a stamp on his signature creation through his latest Solo Art Show last Sunday among the featured contemporaries that includes Philippine National Artist BenCab. Borlongan is very much familiar to Secret Fresh who has his first Solo Art Show dating back to more than six years ago when he first introduced his original version of “Hari Sonik” creation as well as his other art pieces. The new look on Hari Sonik with a life size installation spinning as a DJ coupled with new paintings was certainly Secret Fresh!

11.18.2019 –There are deep narratives that define a contemporary art nowadays with inspiration taken from popular culture namely in science fiction, videogames, and even in comicbooks. There’s a rich world out there that aspire to take up a pen and write it or even illustrate them in your own perspective. This is the case with Keb Cerda who recently had an opening night for his solo art exhibition at Secret Fresh. Most of the artists featured usually have their own vision and story to tell, but Cerda defines his work through this elaborate world filled with ideas that was inspired from the genres mention and it had a lot of visceral imagery.

11.04.2019 – The weekend was crazy and wild for the very first Solo Art Show featuring Quiccs at Secret Fresh. The Philippine-based Toy Designer and renowned for his street art and the very popular TEQ63 has finally made it. Not only he released four exclusive artworks, but also released the “Manila Killa” Encore Edition pack. Sunday was the finale of sorts for the “Manila Killa” art show that was a resounding success that defines what is the Philippine Art Toy scene is all about. Quiccs still as humble as he was five years ago when he was developing the TEQ63 art toy for what it was today greeted his fans family, friends, fans, and followers as he arrived.

07.19.2016 – From creating well-known pop culture characters in his recent two-man show with Egg Fiasco in Second Skin, JJ Zamoranos a.k.a. EXLD Manila is talking his visual re-imagination to one of Japan’s longest running Tokusatsu series. You might already have known this character since being introduced on July 17, 1966 and currently celebrating fifty years. This of course was the right time for JJ Zamoranos to make his spin out of this kaiju kicking hero that everyone remembers.

06.12.2016 – Uji Handoko Eko Saputro (Hahan) first solo show and collaboration with Vinyl on Vinyl Art Gallery also produced his first ever Art Toy for the exhibit “Hahan at WRKZ” that’s on exhibit since opening four nights ago. The art toy is something of the main part of the exhibit that will be running for the next three weeks at the same time it showcases some of Hahan’s finest artworks that also capture some attention to visitors. The colorful ensemble is what makes his solo show the event being on spotlight at the main gallery that you shouldn’t miss.

05.09.2016 – Boba Fett may or may not survive the Sarlacc pit in “Return of the Jeid”, but Fett Boy has enough bounty to give the Rebellion or even the Resistance a run for their money as the “Fett Boy Custom Show” was a success on opening night. If you haven’t been in the realm of art toy scene these are not action figures you’re looking for. The Fett Boys is a figure sculpture from the same creative team known as Imagine Nation Design Studios who have produced its previous “Boys” namely TrooperBoy, Vader Boy, and C3PBoy with Spray2D2.

04.25.2016 – Ferdie Montemayor’s “GLOBO” is his first solo show with Secret Fresh that will also feature his limited edition and exclusive art toy. This was also part of the exhibit that has Montemayor’s new art works. The concept and style that incorporates into his work is from territory, structures and boundaries of a living community in their different scales and configurations. These limited GLOBO art toys is Montemayor’s first.

03.08.2016 – R A Tijing is one of the well-known visual artists in the art gallery scene, and has collaborated with Secret Fresh to be the third featured artist at the SIXINCH gallery. 02.08.2016 – Devilrobots is a 5-man team who created one of Japan’s popular television shows in TO-FU Oyako. They’ve been previous guests in major conventions in Asia. One notable appearance is at the first STGCC in 2008. They’ve been popular with their creation and one of them Sinchiro Kitai is representing the team in an exclusive Secret Fresh exhibit in the Philippines that happened last night, which was dubbed “The Collection” that featured most of his work as well as the Devilrobots team in this exclusive event.
