03.04.2020 – The Bearbrick Series of Blind box figures continue to push on with unique designs, concepts and partnership with some of the brands in the industry. There’s no doubt it is not something for everyone. But for those into the designer art toy and anything that is visually stimulate art it is a collectible worthy of attention. Currently, the Bearbrick minifigures that comes from the mystery box is on its thirty-ninth edition that was released in 2019 and there’s a new batch coming out sometime in this year. For now here is a special spotlight on one of the mystery figures and that is the delightful Paddington!

02.12.2020 – From his humble beginnings as a visual artist it took Quiccs almost eight years to make his dream happen. News about his latest collaboration with sneaker and clothing brand adidas was revealed by the artist through his social media last month that he will collaborate with upcoming projects. The first project is something a surprise to those who has followed him and fans who has collected his now iconic TEQ63 art toys. This is something to be celebrated as Quiccs has been a long-time fan of adidas brand as evident on the apparel he wears and the sneakers he rocks has finally revealed what’s going to drop on 13/02/2020!

12.09.2019 – Contemporary Art scene is evolving in the Philippines with that the constant change is also the evolution of the talent that is put out in local galleries across the country mostly in the heart of Central Luzon, where most of these art spaces can be found as one of the melting pot for this type of venue. 05.15.2019 – In the early 2010s the booming art gallery scene in the Philippines has started to sprout all over Metro Manila. This produced and promoted the artistry for the best of the brightest talents that are making a name in foreign countries abroad. This also gave birth to art events shows that not only catered to the traditional art form, but reinvigorated the interest thanks to these local galleries. Nova Gallery Manila is one of those haven that put the names to their works and their passion for the arts that had recent celebrated its ninth anniversary.

Nano TEQ63 | McDonald's Colorway

12.18.2018 – TEQ63 has come a long way from a prototype 8-Ball head resin. Collaborating with local artists from the Designer Toy Art scene to well known brands that produced different iteration of the character. It’s now slowly recognized in the general mainstream that will also introduce the Designer Toy medium. The Nano TEQ63 which is collaboration between QUICCS and Devil Toys an iteration of the character in its chibi toy form has been released early in June 2018 with the standard Black & White colorway. Now it takes on the iconic McDonald’s colorway called the ‘Super Size Me’ edition.

12.16.2018 – For those uninitiated the Designer Art Toys are not the stuff you see at department stores like Rustan’s or Myer’s. Not even in big toy shops like Toy World or Toy Kingdom. These special toys are not even playable for kids. Art Toys in general are more of a lowbrow art piece. Though we’re not claiming to be experts how it started or where it came from its simple that the Designer Art Toys are like those contemporary art paintings that you see in galleries. The only difference is they’re not that uber expensive that most art enthusiasts can afford and behind that is also they have their own event.

Happy Meal #1Shots | Miles Morales Spider-Verse

12.15.2018 – Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is already out in cinemas right now and the merchandise has already been released like the Happy Meal toys that were already available as since December 7th. The action figures and other things related can be seen sold in department stores and toy stores anywhere. But the Spider-Verse figurines from McDonald’s Happy Meal have been not much as discussed in comparison to the previous Pokemon characters. Taking a closer look at all eight some might notice about the sticker labels as featured previously with the rest of the characters that appeared in the animated feature film and Miles Morales is in it.

Funko Pop! Disney | Steamboat Willie

11.18.2016 – “Steamboat Willie” was a classic animation by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. It’s Mickey and Minnie Mouse’s debut on November 18, 1928. The black & white animated short was produced by Walt Disney Studios This was the first cartoon not only introduces Mickey Mouse for the first time it was the very first Disney cartoon with synchronized sound. The cartoon is iconic that Funko produced “Steamboat Willie” is one of the first Pop Vinyl figures.

Funko POP! Marvel | Howard the Duck

08.04.2016 – Funko’s POP! line of vinyl figurines continue to expand with its license properties from animation, movies, videogames, and even those created for visual artist with their original creations that capture everyone’s attention. It is a lucrative and popular brand for Funko that also have the rights to produce characters for Marvel, but the difference from the standard vinyl figurine they have their version do the ‘bobble’ and one of them is the famous Howard the Duck.

06.27.2016 – Today begins a week-long special program for “Shark Week” on Discovery Channel that became popular since its first program went on-air on July 17, 1988. Originally an annual special devoted to conservation efforts and correcting misconceptions about sharks. To promote the beginning of Shark Week here’s a closer look at Funko Pop TV’s Sharknado, which is based from the B-Movie that spawned sequels and the time that you’ll never get your life back seeing it other than that this art toy looks good…

06.11.2016 – “Finding Dory” is heading to cinemas this coming week and most of the characters from “Finding Nemo” are making a return to a new adventure featuring the forgetful Blue Tang who will be the center of the narrative. But before you dive in and also meet Dory’s new friends here is one character that certainly stood out in “Finding Nemo”, and that is Crush the Sea Turtle first met by Marlin & Dory on the way to Australia where Nemo was taken in the original film.

One comes to mind is South Korean visual and sculptor Coolrain Lee. His most familiar in work in the Philippines is the Eraserheads art toys that were released in 2013.

03.02.2016 – Trexi is a platform of colorful art figure produced by PlayImaginative that has a unique rotating head and articulated limbs, and comes in 2 sizes - 2.5 inch and 10 inch. They have recently tie-up with popular brands like Disney. These art figures are unique with rotating head that allows the character to change facial expressions by twisting the upper or lower parts of the head. They have released a line for Disney in 2013 that includes the iconic Donald Duck on this spotlight!

Though limited in its space to bring forth that expression Vinyl On Vinyl provided the alternative in miniature trains similar to the subway trains in Chicago or New York. But these are based from the elevated trains or known as the LRT and MRT in the Philippines that has become part of the culture re-created in small scale artfully repainted in miniature form of graffiti and mural paintings by a talented group.

09.15.2015 – J★RYU is one of the highlighted guests at Asia Pop Comicon happening this September 17 to 20 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City. He’s been known in the urban lifestyle scene as a toy designer for art collectibles. He was introduced earlier as one of the guests at the media day for the event. He also revealed his collaboration with Kid Robot an exclusive Dunny of his design that’s going to be released as a limited edition this November and will be at APCC!
