No End for Resident Evil: Retribution!

09.13.2012 – The Resident Evil (Biohazard in Japan) games inspired a cult following which started its success from the original PlayStation videogame console. Now on its sixth game the movie version is not far behind but unrelated to the above mentioned.

The movie has its own story that began in 2002 which stars Milla Jovovich as Alice an original character that was made for the film. There are some of the characters from the videogame did appear in the movie-verse as an ally or an enemy that Alice encountered.

Three of the five films were directed by Paul W. S. Anderson the same director who brought you Mortal Kombat back in 1995. He also wrote and produced the Resident Evil films.

Resident Evil: Retribution was anticipated by the fans as it opens North American theatres this coming weekend. Some parts of Asia and Europe gets to see the film first and it’s good that it did not came out in 3D as the film would be “action packed” enough not to be digitally mastered in that medium.

If did not entirely follow the franchise you won’t entirely appreciate the scope of the storyline unless you have seen the four previous films. It might give some the confusion about what exactly happened but there are a few details that might give light if you only saw the last one. The typical Paul W. S. Anderson directed film will give you scores of action, suspense, and a lot of blood.

It was rated “R” in North America with some excessive violence which the usual thing you see in survival horror genre that made the videogame popular. But the movies gives you a different dose of adrenaline rush that you’ll get used to.

Entirely the visuals are great with the set pieces and all that grit that defined this film’s own identity. Retribution is one of those films you just casually see on a weekend with friends not entirely the videogame you knew. This one has its own conflicting stories and with Jovovich’s allure you can’t pass it up not to see it.

To make the long winded story short the film definitely kicks ass having its moments but going through the film you have to wonder if this is it. But obviously if you look around online the news has been out that they still want to make its sixth film. Then again you just have to see this first but for milking the franchise why not stop at Retribution?

We’re still guessing what the next title would be but then again there’s still no word out what others think of this film since it won’t be out until Friday. Let’s hope they don’t run out of stories to tell if they want to have this end on a high note or not.

Overall Milla Jovovich is still the reigning queen of kick ass with that scantily clad suit beating the hell out of those monsters. The film has its ups and downs but if you’re just looking for entertainment value then you might want to try the action in this one. It never gets old at the same time wanting to see the closure of its story.

Resident Evil Retribution opens today September 13, 2012 in Philippine Cinemas nationwide from Columbia Pictures Studios. For more details and promotions LIKE the Official Facebook Page!
