The idea for the documentary featuring GPK Collectors which will also contain interviews from the original artists who started it all like Art Spiegelman, Len Brown, Mark Newgarden, John Pound, Tom Bunk, Jay Lynch, and more.
This is an independent project that has connections to Topps Company. It’s more ambitious through crowd funding at Kickstarter as a campaign which is currently in production.
The Mission stated:
This documentary’s goal is to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Topps’ Garbage Pail Kids Cards. We will interview the original creators of the surprisingly controversial and explosively popular 80’s card series. Grown-up kids will share nostalgic memories of what it was like to be a part of an international phenomenon. Superfans will give us a peek at what a 30-year amassment of Garbage Pail Kids memorabilia looks like. We will proclaim Garbage Pail Kids as an art form and a solid mark of the 20th Century! See how these happily-diseased kids are still influencing pop culture today.
If you’re one of those collective few who grew up collecting the sticker cards, and have fond memories seeing the cartoon series or just having fun acquiring the cards. Maybe it’s time for you to pledge your support in making this project happen.
Details of the project can be found at the Kickstarter site HERE. The campaign is already getting some support and ready for your donations. There will be incentives who will greatly take part for this project. Make the 30 years of Garbage Pail Kids happen and be part of the upcoming celebration.
