| 04.03.2019 – Every time a new set of Happy Meal toy is a mad scramble to their nearest store. But it all depends on the country that release them as you all know some parts of Asia they don’t release an entire set, but you have to wait a specific day of the week for its feature toy like in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Hong Kong.
But in the Philippines it’s a different story once they release the toys most of them get a set immediately within the day. It is also depending on the popularity which toy that might be. For April 2019, its Barbie and Hot Wheels as the latest that has been a regular for McDonald’s Happy Meal. |
For the past five years Mattel’s flagship product has been more of a regular as part of McDonald’s Happy Meal once a year. This also depends on what type of version the Barbie and Hot Wheels brands are represented with its latest iteration. Most recent changes on the Hot Wheels cars are obviously have been different from the original product that was made of diecast.
With Barbie they streamlined on the specific doll/figure concept since these are ‘fast food toys’ the budget constraints can be seen due to the change in the material they were made of. McDonald’s third –party manufacturer for their Happy Meal toys made sure that they are still recognizable products from the original dolls that you see in department stores and toy stores.

For 2019, the new set of Happy Meal toys featuring Barbie and Hot Wheels has been released to other countries and region with varying versions of cars and doll/figures that most collectors in the Philippines still doesn’t understand why some countries have most of the toys than the ones in Asia.
But you could understand now that these other regions like North America and Europe have bigger markets and competitors that also offer their version of these ‘fast food toys’ that they end up as an exclusive. When they get released in Asia some of these toys that were previously sold in another country or region as an exclusive like the Twin Mill and Gazella R or the Animal Vet and Firefighter not including a Detective sold in some parts of Europe that would become an exclusive that most won’t understand why.
So far McDonald’s has been doing this all over the world for the past decade to mix things up with exclusives for that particular region or country. But with Asia you get the standard release of four toys for girls and four toys for boys that have been different with the Discovery Mindblown Robots last month.

Barbie Astronaut
There have been many portrayals Barbie has been but in a Happy Meal toy this is her first to be an Astronaut and why not? There have been many women who now works at NASA and have been into space and behind the scenes and she captures that essence in this doll/figure as part of the latest theme that featured her also as a Beach Surfer, Guitar Player, and Mermaid that are released for Asia.
This doll/figure was also released in other regions like in Australia/New Zealand and Europe as the most frequent figure as probably a definite stand out that would inspire young girls to take up science as a profession because traveling to the stars is no longer impossible if you put your mind to it as one of the aspirations why this version of Barbie became a regular release for most in comparison to the other jobs this famous doll/figure might take.
A Closer Look at a Space Explorer
With Barbie’s entire version taking up jobs as a Firefighter and Animal Vet or an athletic Surfer or a talented musician with her Guitar this Astronaut lacked one thing and that is her helmet. It would be great she had her bubble helmet or a standard Astronaut’s helmet with her. You know space or other planets doesn’t have a breathable atmosphere for her to survive that trip.
You have to understand how McDonald’s made sure you’ll get the same Barbie doll/figure that you would appreciate even if it was a low cost version of the popular brand. They really worked their way on the quality side that Barbie’s entire head is rooted hair like the previous releases that you’ll get a closer look at her long hair that comes out at the back of her head not the entire scalp.
It would have been great if she had one to seal the deal for being one of the best versions of her. Even though without her not having a helmet this figure is a favorite not only for young girls but those who collect the Happy Meal toys. If you’re not into getting into completing a set this Barbie Astronaut is definitely the one most would get as their subject for Toy Photography or a display piece and who knows someone out there might have made her custom space helmet.
Overall Barbie Astronaut stands out among the other Barbie doll/figures released in Asia as part of this April 2019 Happy Meal toys. Don’t miss out if you only wanted this version of Barbie, you know there are other planets she would explore just head down to your nearest McDonald’s and grab a Happy Meal while you’re at it!
