Filbar's | Enter A New Multiverse

04.23.2019 – Filbar’s is the oldest comic shop in the Philippines and in the past forty years it has evolved from just a section of a clothing store in Iloilo to a pop culture shop that not only caters into comics. But has become a multiverse of all things that makes nerds go crazy what’s popular in the local scenes such as collectibles, toys, and high end props.

Recently, Filbar’s expanded its ever growing store to a new location, which at the newly renovated The Podium mall just at the back of SM Megamall. Since Free Comic Book Day is less than a few days away you might want to get familiarize with this store as one of those shops participating this year.

Named as “Filbar’s Multiverse” with a new concept store giving you a view of what this shop is all about. In the past from its early beginnings the store is a huge Marvel supporter as founder Filemon Barbasa, who originally owned the store made sure Filbar’s showed adoration to the Marvel brand as the original plastic bags have Spider-Man appear in them.

This 2019 is the store’s anniversary year and new management that acquired the company almost seven years ago continued that tradition as the current owners themselves are Marvel fans and even opened a concept store at the former location in Glorietta 5 years ago. But to keep the store up to date it has to expand and be at forefront with other comic shops, thus the new store was dubbed “Filbar’s Multiverse” a multitude of pop culture from everything a nerds dream to reality.

Located at the fourth level of The Podium you’ll immediately see the side of the store screaming “Multiverse” where glass displays of licensed Hot Toys 12 inch figures on display as well as some of Marvel’s collectible props from Iron Man, Thanos, and Captain America.

The black motif is all too familiar since new owners of the company have bought “Filbar’s from its original founder that is far from the greener color that is most familiar with the comic shop. When you enter the shop a life size statue of Captain American welcomes you and you’ll see a display area dedicated to the Funko brand with pops and other things.

At the middle shelves of graphic novels from DC, Marvel, Image, local published works while drawers of “floppies” are well-organized for customers who are looking for the specific titles they need. While at the side you’ll see the latest issues for the week and at the staff area you’ll also find the list of latest comics that has been available from the past week.

This shop will also host this year’s Free Comic Book Day with Leinil Yu and Alkan Czar Santos as their artist guests on 4 May 2019. This is probably the store’s first major event since opening its doors last 25 January of this year. In case you haven’t read the announcement see details below:

If you happen to be unfamiliar with how The Podium is now due to its expansion and major upgrades you’ll never get lost when you try to look for the new Filbar’s store at the fourth level. You’ll find it just a few floors above Uniqlo and other clothing stores. The “Multiverse” name can’t be missed with the stores signature black and white motif.

For those in the area it will be more reliable to pick up your most sought after titles or expecting the latest Funko Pop figures. Check out their latest displays or pre-order the next Hot Toys won’t be a concern now that the latest Filbar’s Mutliverse store is now at The Podium.
