| 09.04.2019 – This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing, which was on 16 July 1969. It was timing for the celebration that there have been merchandise around the world that commemorate the occasion it’s the space theme that drives inspiration for young minds and for adults too.
It is also the right timing for Playmobil to capture young kids imagination with the 2019 sets focused on the Mission to Mars series. This aligns with the previous sets that were re-released with a color theme for 2019 and this includes a started set that is the Astronaut and Robo Duo-Pack for those aspire to walk on the lunar surface! |
Usually, Playmobil introduces kids and collectors to a smaller set that featured one Playmo Figure and a vehicle. But for those still not familiar with the product they have the Duo-Pack series featuring two Playmo Figures that would initiate the play value and interest for young minds.
For the collectors something of a ‘starter kit’ that builds an interest for this specific theme. There have been various themes in the past but Playmobil focuses on the Space theme this year with new colors namely the primary is white and yellow-green as it separates from the 2016/2017 series that had the launch pad and rocket ship aside from the satellite that has a breakaway pieces of an asteroid.
This one certainly focuses more of exploring the lunar surface of the moon and the ride with a rover to Mars. It is refreshing that Playmobil taps into this underrated theme as they are more popular with medieval sets from the Knights Series.
Astronaut & Robo Duo-Pack
For some this might be another rehash or reissue from previous iteration of the Space theme. But you’ll be surprised aside from the blister card that matches up the rest of sets from this range. But also gives you brand new casting of the space helmet that have visors swivel once you open up and take a closer look on the astronaut.
But with the limited accessories that came with it the pair comes with a grabber attached to a computer devices as the spacesuite of the astronaut does not come with a backpack unlike the previous Duo-Pack not part of this theme.
The robot is nameless but is thematic with the new colors that match the Playmobil Space theme sets. The emotional eyes and movable antenna makes this sought after that is also included in the space station set but in white.
Explorers of the Future
Comparing the Astronaut to the recent and past Spacemen the colors standout as well as a modernized movable visor this guy is all smiles. So far he only have the tools to pick up a lunar rock colored in blue that has a hose attached to a handheld computer.
Comparing the nameless robot to Robotitron from Playmobil the Movie does not do justice as there are other robots that Playmobil has produced in the past. So far this set is one of the best Duo-Pack that is for the 2019 series. It disappeared in most stores due to the rising interest in the Space theme.
Overall the Astronaut and Robo Duo-Pack is a find, but pricing point for this set has changed significantly from the previous sets. Besides the popularity of the theme it is unique among the other Duo-Pack sets out there that are the reason for becoming uncommon in the Philippines and in other markets.
