09.14.2012 – In Japan movie monsters are unlike the usual kind that we know coming from Western influences they are just the figment of your imagination in smaller scale. Godzilla (pronounced as Gojira in Japan) is one of the iconic monsters that would rival King Kong for the creature in the planet.

This terrible lizard imbued from atomic and nuclear radiation as its origins has more movies than your usual giant ape. There where countless iteration of the creature that earned him a star at Hollywood’s walk of fame.

The popularity of this iconic character has spawned also comic books, toys and other worldly exclusive merchandise from Japan. Godzilla made it to Hollywood back in 1998 which clearly NOT the monster we expected which also had a spin off in the animated series shown on HBO in the early 2000s. Now “The King of the Monsters!” is back in the Hollywood and this time Warner Bros. Pictures got the rights from Toho Ltd. to produce the film in collaboration with Legendary Pictures.

This is indeed great news to monster loving populace that Godzilla will stomp its way to open the summer blockbuster films slated to be released on May 16, 2014!

The joint announcement was made earlier today by Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution, and Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, President of International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures, and by Legendary Pictures.

Toho Co., Ltd.’s Godzilla franchise which is most widely recognized movie monsters globally, including more than 25 films, multiple television programs, video games and book series. Legendary, which has been developing the project, and its partner Warner Bros. will return the character to its epic roots with a gritty, realistic actioner. The project will fall under Legendary’s overall agreement with Warner Bros.

Originally Legendary Pictures has been constantly promoting this development since as far back in SDCC 2010 when they announced in bringing back the film. It will be directed by Gareth Edwards, who earned worldwide acclaim for his feature directorial debut, “Monsters.”

Edwards directs from a screenplay by David Callaham (“The Expendables” films), David S. Goyer (the “Dark Knight” trilogy) and Max Borenstein (upcoming “The Seventh Son”). Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will produce, along with Roy Lee, Dan Lin and Brian Rogers. Alex Garcia and Patricia Whitcher will serve as executive producers alongside Doug Davison, Yoshimitsu Banno and Kenji Okuhira.

Finally the film will be directly have a representative from Toho Ltd. to produce in collaboration with Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures to give it a well-deserved interpretation of the classic monster that we know and rubber suits and all its great news.

A presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, the film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, except in Japan, where it will be distributed by Toho Co., Ltd. The tent pole film is expected to be presented in 3D.

We’re still guessing what the next title would be but then again there’s still no word out what others think of this film since it won’t be out until Friday. Let’s hope they don’t run out of stories to tell if they want to have this end on a high note or not.

Overall Milla Jovovich is still the reigning queen of kick ass with that scantily clad suit beating the hell out of those monsters. The film has its ups and downs but if you’re just looking for entertainment value then you might want to try the action in this one. It never gets old at the same time wanting to see the closure of its story.

Resident Evil Retribution opens today September 13, 2012 in Philippine Cinemas nationwide from Columbia Pictures Studios. For more details and promotions LIKE the Official Facebook Page!
