Mattel came out with playsets for the MOTU toy line after Castle Grayskull® there was the Snake Mountain and King Randor’s Castle in Eternia complete with a working monorail. Toy playset in the 1980s where huge and to some toy manufacturers a costly product.
Those were the days that every toy series or franchise has a playset that made the product popular and these days you rarely see one. But if you look back in the 1980s those same toy properties were revived today due to having those cool playsets.
Enter: Castle Grayskull® once again. It’s the iconic place you’ll see in the opening introduction in He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. It’s THE playset that everyone wanted to own after collecting the action figures. It’s the one even Skeletor wanted to conquer but couldn’t since He-man and his friend stood in the way to protect its secrets.
It had a second revival back in 2002 in the failed Mike Young produced animated series but that particular Castle Grayskull® was smaller and featured electronic gimmickry. Like when you put your action figure in front of the main door it featured sound effects. Of course it won’t work if you were not able to purchase those figures that had those microchips embed in their feet. But this revival of the Castle Grayskull® sounds ambitious and it might cost you more than what you think!
This was announced during the recently concluded NEW YORK COMIC-CON (NYCC) that MattyCollector.com has plans to bring this product to fans of old and new.
MattyCollector.com has officially announced the pre-order of this iconic Castle Grayskull® starting today (October 16, 2012 in US times) and their goal was to reach a certain amount of number to produce this ginormous playset.
This is not the Castle Grayskull® you grew up with and not only will offer sanctuary to He-Man® and those who stand for all that is good. An essential component in the original Masters of the Universe® toy line would definitely be the biggest internet exclusive to own at MattyCollector.com!
The All-New Castle Grayskull® playset is set to be released sometime in late 2013. Because it’s still in its very earliest stage, the final design is subject (and likely) to change.
You’re surprised why they are offering it for pre-order now and asking you to make a commitment when the design hasn’t been finalized? Because the production cycle for an item like this takes over a year and is extremely costly. If Mattycollector.com doesn’t reach the minimum pre-order goal by November 10th, they can’t move forward with the production of this playset.
