November KOMIKON Releases!

DAKILA: Buwan Issue 2 (of 3)
by David Hontiveros and Jason Confesor

Lately I've noticed that the blog has been featuring a lot of local talent, we started with featuring local musicians, original Filipino music and up and coming bands which would give foreign bands a run for their money and kick them right off their spots on our radio and Music Television Countdown shows.

Now the blog features have grown into featuring local artists (multimedia artists and painters) since we have been going to Art galleries of late. I am also currently working on my self proclaimed #ProjectSeroks which is my personal mission to spread word that Filipino Literature is more than those Watt-pad "novels" (I hope you can hear the sarcasm with the quotation marks) and that we have writers and authors who don't count on a naive heroine and a hunky hero caught in a clichéd romance to sell a book.

Seroks is actually a compilation of short stories set in a Dystopic future in the Philippines where Genetic Engineering and Cloning are done (as an aftermath of a disease that left 9 out of 10 Americans sterile) but like everything else these clones are eventually pirated and become what is known as a "Seroks".

Never thought that that plot could come from a Filipino writer eh? Well you'd better believe it because that Filipino Author is none other than Palanca Award Winning, Neil Gaiman of the Philippines (yes-a Colleague of mine actually said that) and also my Uncle - David Hontiveros!

I'm actually still reading Volume 1 of Seroks- there is a Volume 2 and Volume 3 out already in book stores. It is a good read and I'm not just being biased here, still currently reading since I'm too busy with work and working on blog posts (oh, what I wouldn't give to actually have writing for the blog as my work but it won't pay the bills, so until then I am still a slave to the Industry :p)

You've probably seen my posts on Seroks, will continue to post about it and will eventually do a review, but this post is actually not about Tito David's work on Seroks but about New Releases from Tito David's Comic Books which he works on as a writer. These new releases will be available on November KOMIKON which is on November 15 in Bagumbayan, Pioneer.

Here's a sneak peak of what you're missing on:

Your name is Brandon Ramirez and you’ve been a geek your whole life: comics, movies, RPGs, cosplay.

And now you’re officially the world’s first superhero, as evidenced by the cape, the mask, the totally ripped physique, and those crazy-awesome powers.

Higher agencies seem to have conspired to steer you right into that skintight outfit.

We have only one question: How’s that working out for you?

It’s been 96 days since 18-year old Brandon Ramirez first became Dakila.

His girlfriend Haliya is a lunar princess, whose childhood bestie, Agrios, is a demon-werewolf hybrid who’s none too thrilled with the teen superhero hanging around…

In “Bad Moon Rising” (the first part of “Balatkayo”), join us to celebrate someone’s birthday with some deception and a side order of treachery!
Plus, Brandon and Haliya go out dancing

Sort of.
