Jane Foster: Valkyrie #2 | The God of the Kill

08.31.2019 – In just two-issue Jane Foster becomes the last Valkyrie and now faces Daredevil’s deadliest foe—Bullseye!

If this was the most challenging and ever-changing life for the former Mighty Thor then you’re for a ride with Al Ewing and Jason Aaron crafting the next phase for Jane Foster’s life.

The last issue was just in time for Foster’s evolution at the same milestone that Marvel will be adapting her previous adventures as Mighty Thor for the Cinematic Universe.

It is quite astonishing to see things roll for the House of Ideas to immediately get fresh takes on these characters such as Jane Foster, originally first appeared in the Journey Into Mystery as Dr. Donald Blake’s love interest.

This second part of its first story arc doesn’t give enough room for Jane to breath from the last pages of the first issue that took down Heimdall. It gets straight to the meat of the narrative and action how she used to take down gods now dealing with the deadliest villains armed with the sword that used to belong to Brunnhilde, the original Valkyrie. Both writers of this series certainly have some surprises.

The new iteration of Valkyrie not only explores her unique abilities and newfound powers from her previous predecessors but also explores the humanity of Jane Foster. Besides wielding a new type of weapon that she can use in a split second of thought her humanity is an essential part of the overall narrative dealing with ‘normal’ life aside from being a new type of hero.

The artwork is superb as the second issue with Carlos Alberto Fernandez Urbano credited as CAFU while the variant cover was done by Kim Jacinto gives all the action that you’re looking for in this latest series. Most readers won’t notice this little gem of a title as flying under the radar for most casual fans. This series should be in your pull list as it delves deep to the character why Jane Foster deserves the title and the mantle of being the last Valkyrie. It will maybe years away for her cinematic counterpart as portrayed by Natalie Portman to take this role, but the character’s aesthetics and appearance do take inspiration to actress features.

Overall Ewing and Aaron didn’t waste time when the second issue came about. Certainly, something for new fans or readers to jump on the next adventures of Jane Foster as this is just beginning!
