Komiket Ortigas | Event Highlights

The event landscape has changed over the past two years, and with the Philippines this is the only time things are going back to ‘normal.’ However you interpret it the changes will be significant and subtle, but with things that continue to happen globally there are few are soldiering on to continue what everyone has miss out.

Over the weekend Komiket Ortigas was one of the few events that happened over the course of its three days, and the success was greater than the sum of its parts. It’s like seeing a longtime friend you have not made face-to-face contact in a very long time.

The peak of this event was Saturday without the need to elaborate the details on who’s who and what just happened it was really the busiest venues to happen to Ayala Malls The 30th that used to be lively before the last two years changed this shopping centre, and the organizer at Komiket certainly had enough help to bring it alive.

By the time you might come across this report you’d probably looking forward to future events that covers and encompasses on all manner related to popular culture. The engine that’s actually driving this well-oiled machine are the community that set up their tables and present their wares.

It is strange seeing this interaction among a group of people simultaneously discussing what has been happening in the past few months, and then there are some who were pretty much overjoyed seeing a familiar face who they have not seen during those challenging times.

Pretty much a small community though it continues to thrive what they represent, namely the graphic novels and comicbooks that have been presently displayed on that big table where the organizers are assisting those ‘new’ to the community that happened to stop by or discovered this gathering that will continue to grow.

This was remarkably impressive how it was a joy like Pol Medina (creator of Pugad Baboy) is like a child in a candy store seated as long lines have sprouted in front of him waiting for their books to get inked by signature. Within the random tables you find Lyndon Gregorio (creator of Beerkada) has been quite relaxed now that he sold most of the books he brought from the event since Friday.

You can also find other things aside from Filipino Komiks like stickers, postcards, pins, and whatnot. There are new faces that you might have missed seeing prior to the absence of the events like Tarantadong Kalbo or some of the graphic novels you’ve wanted to get, but due to what happened in the last two years this was your only chance to get those books.

There are so many images you find it quite new again after not having this kind of event, and you thought reading graphic novels and Filipino Komiks was phased out, think again. This is just halfway to 2022 and there are more events that are returning. For now, Komiket Ortigas is just one of the events that showed that local events are definitely back and this time keep an eye on the next one.

Komiket Ortigas was a 3-day event held at the second level of Ayala Malls The 30th from 10-12 June 2022, and for more announcements from Komiket be sure to follow them on social media via Facebook and Instagram.
