05.26.2012 – This year’s Summer Komikon has multiple launches of new komiks from up and coming artists.
This is also an event to first time guests most notably celebrities who would star in the comics that ties up to an upcoming movie from GMA Films. We’re talking about Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles which was introduced at the recently concluded Summer Komikon. The story and character creation was conceptualized by Erik Matti who happens to be the director of the movie with Ronald Stephen “Dondon” Y. Monteverde. |
This comic book made for movie idea has been a project between Erik Matti and Dondon Monterverde since December 2010. The idea about making an action–horror comic book and film started out as an idea conceived during dinner time. For some it might be just another Filipino film, but the process of making this into a reality was done with sheer conviction and discipline.
The comic book itself has its promising interest as this was just written to be made. It was made with passion for writing a good story and drawn by talented people in the Philippine comic industry that we can promote in the international scene.
During the recently concluded Summer Komikon convention we got a treat from Reality Entertainment’s special effects done by Mothership which gives us some tidbits about the movie and the stars. A behind the scenes look on how the film was produced. The technicality of it was all about the making of a Hollywood film done in a huge green screen backdrop. Post Manila handles the post production of the film and if you think this is just another popcorn move well… think again.
The main star of the film Dingdong Dantes was up on stage with Komikon co-organizer/main stage host Sherry Baet-Zamar talking about the film and inviting the fans to check out the comic book. Lovi Poe was also present along with Peter Collias who is the production designer of the film talking to the media at their booth.
Peter Collias no stranger for being known as the production designer for notable Hollywood movies such as The Matrix, Ghost Rider, Dark City, 10,000 BC, Moulin Rouge! And the list goes on was present to talk to the media who was around the convention floor greeting the fans. The heart of the promotion of this upcoming movie was about the process how it was made and taking Filipino folklore to the next level.
Tiltik: The Aswang Chronicles may not be as popular as the Zombies that have been popular nowadays. But we may not know the Aswangs are moving up as the most gruesome creatures that would give the brain eating monsters a run for their blood money and this movie would be it.
The comic book Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles is sold for PhP 150.00 pesos (roughly $3.45 US dollars) and was first available at Summer Komikon. Stay tuned for announcements where this book will be sold.
Catch the film directed by Erik Matti which stars Dingdong Dantes, Lovi Poe, Joey Marquez, Janice De Belen, Roi Vinzon, LJ Reyes, Ramon Bautista, Mike Gayoso, and Harley Picana. Distributed by GMA Films opens in the Philippines on October 17, 2012!
