Sights & Highlights: Tony Velasquez Gallery!

02.16.2014 – Tony Velasquez is Filipino illustrator and pioneered as a found father of the Philippine comics industry. He created Pongyang Halobaybay and Kenkoy which is in Tagalog language in the late 1930s. But his most popular “iconic comic strip” is Kenkoy.

His creations are told in the “slice of life” themes, where scenes the stories are in their humorous situations. There are only a few who knows the Philippine comics rich history and Tony Velasquez would be considered as one national treasure to be remembered…

Elbert Or's Manosaur!

11.21.2013 – Manosaur is an experimental comic book from Elbert Or the creator of the series Bakemono High which appears on the monthly K-Zone Magazine. Now on its second issue Manosaur has more dinosaur friends appearing in the series.

The first issue was released during Summer Komikon and it was originally targeted for very young audience for its kid-friendly humor. Manosaur is a combination of two words in Man and Dinosaur which getting a cult following after Komikon 2013.

Throwback: Kiko Machine!

10.24.2013 – If you have been following Kiko Machine Komix by Manix Abrera then consider yourself a fan but for those who just started picking up the series you’ll be surprised where it all started.

Originally Kiko Machine started as a band and has produced one full album with the same name.

At the same time Manix Abrera came up with a comic book series that would evolve on to his own that’s heading to become the most sought after titles from Visprint.

11.05.2012 – If you missed the release of Trese: Midnight Tribunal at the recently concluded Komikon 2012 then you may have your second chance to get a copy at the upcoming book signing at National Bookstore’s Best Sellers this Saturday at the Robinsons Galleria branch.



The hit adventure series gets a special book signing launch which features a definite treat to its cult following from Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo. This special edition of Trese: Midnight Tribunal gets an exclusive edition to be released at the event.

Komikon 2012: Freely Abrigo at Indie Komiks Tiangge!

10.24.2012 – Freely Abrigo is back at Komikon 2012 and one of the hardest working artists in the industry will launch not one but two new titles that he’s been cooking up.

The proud artist has been churning up some fresh ideas and he does sketches every day.

We last spoke to Freely during the last day of PICCA (Philippine International Creative Content and Arts) Festival a couple of weeks back who is anticipating this year’s Komikon.

Komikon: Indieket 2012 Convention Coverage!

07.14.2012 – Komikon’s Indieket had a huge turn out and this event was geared to promote the independent Philippine comics scene. The event definitely gave the independent comic book publishers a voice that is hardly noticed in other conventions in the country.

Komikon has definitely re-energized the Philippine comic book scene promoting the local culture since its inception in 2005. The rest followed suit giving the independent publishers a chance to promote and bring back the “Komiks” industry AND make this a reality.

11.11.2010 - Prepare yourself as Komikon 2010 is ready to rock your weekend. Happening this Saturday November 13, 2010 at the Starmall Trade Hall.

Located at the corner of Edsa and Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City. Entrance fee is PhP 80.00 pesos ($1.60 US) and if your not aware of the events happening check out the events schedule.

Countdown to Komikon 2010!

10.08.2010 - Komikon 2010 is one month, four days, twenty three hours and forty two minutes to go, which is on November 13, 2010 at the Starmall.

Pop Culture events won't be complete without Komikon 2010, and if your living under a rock maybe this is the right time to get out and see it.

Komikon has been a staple in the Philippine Pop Culture community as the komiks convention you should not miss.

Its rarely that you'll see a convention dedicated to Filipino komiks, where most conventions are either promoting toyd or cosplay.
