Peter "Robocop" Weller joins Star Trek 2 cast!
You knew him as "The Future of Law Enforcement", and he played the role for two movies. Now, via a report from Variety and Comic Book Movie, actor Peter Weller has been added to the cast of J.J. Abrams' next Star Trek Movie!
A veteran actor, thespian, and director, Weller, 64, is best known for his role as officer Alex Murphy/ Robocop, in the 1987 sci-fi cult classic film of the same name. Like recent addition Alice Eve, details about Weller's role in the next Trek film are still under wraps, but this is arguably both a surprise and welcomed addition, and I'm sure fans who remember Murphy will welcome this legendary screen presence with open arms. If you want a taste of his acting chops, here's a scene of him as Robocop in the final act of the movie!

Legal troubles threaten to divide Superman franchise...

This is both old and new news to hear about, and it will certainly affect the future of Superman in a big way.
As was reported by Variety, Slash Film, and Screen Rant, the ongoing legal battle between DC Comics and the estates of Superman's creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, may reach a point where both parties may have to split and retain certain rights and key elements to the character. What that basically means is that if things do not work out and both parties do not mutually agree to something, we may see the division of Superman entirely. He won't be wearing the iconic red, blue, and yellow costume everyone knew and grew up with due to copyright issues, and his origins may have to be changed somewhat, at least in the case of DC Universe that is. The phrase "Leaping Tall Buildings In A Single Bound" was coined by the creators, so that will go along with the costume baggage should a separation take place.
In essence, if all of this comes to pass where the respective rights revert back to their creators in 2013 (a year after Zack Snyder's Superman movie "Man of Steel" shows) we may see the birth of two distinctly different versions of "Superman". The Siegel and Shuster's estates own pretty much what makes up the original Superman when he debuted in the pages of Action Comics in 1938. DC still owns international rights, flying, and the villains attached to the character, so there may not be any obvious changes for the modern incarnation at least. However, anything new conjured up will set up grounds for another case again, and it limits both parties from exploring the alter ego of Kal-El/ Clark Kent in many other ways. JGL is NOT Alberto Falcone in The Dark Knight Rises?
Confusing as it may sound, it seems that the rumor/ news that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Alberto Falcone in The Dark Knight Rises may not hold up some water due to some conflicting reports. On one hand, you got Variety reporting that he is playing the son of Carmine Falcone, and on the other you got Entertainment Weekly debunking that report and saying that JGL will be in the movie, but not as Falcone. As movie blog news site Slash Film points out, both sources are reliable, and the reports could be different information leaking out to confuse different parties about what exactly is the scoop on TDKR, whom director Christopher Nolan and his team keep under a strict veil of secrecy. In any case, what IS confirmed is tha JGL is in the film. It just can't be confirmed at this point what role he'll be officially playing... yet. For more info on the story, visit Slash Film, EW, and Variety. The Dark Knight Rises will premiere in theaters on July 20, 2012.

Cobie Smulders officially cast as Maria Hill in The Avengers!
Via Variety and as posted Screen Rant, it can now be confirmed that Cobie Smulders from "How I Met Your Mother" fame has been cast as Maria Hill, a tough as nails agent of S.H.I.E.L.D who featured prominently in the comics and took over the position as Deputy Director at one point. She'll be cast as the sidekick of Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson, and both will be starring in The Avengers, due in May 4 next year. This is Smulders' first major role in an upcoming blockbuster film, and it'll be a treat to see her playing a well known character like Maria Hill alongside other superstar actors like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, and Chris Evans, who are reprising their roles of iconic Marvel superheroes Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America respectively!
