Ben Affleck in talks with WB to helm "Justice League"

Much news has been going around for the superhero movie industry. After Marvel and Disney confirmed that Joss Whedon would be returning to direct the Avengers sequel and help work on the untitled TV series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (as well as signing an exclusive deal that keeps him with the studio until 2015), Warner Bros. is stepping up their game by approaching a known director and actor to helm their much awaited Justice League film. That man is none other than The Town director Ben Affleck, who himself played a superhero in the form of 20th Century Fox's 2003 film adaptation of the Marvel Comics superhero Daredevil. The studio has already hired Will Beall to write the script, and now talks are to bring the Academy Award and Golden Globe winner on board to take on DC's finest team of superheroes.

Man of Steel Official Synopsis released!

Warner Bros. has released the official synopsis for Zack Snyder's upcoming Superman reboot, which is entitled "Man of Steel". The film is currently underway and casting calls have been given out in locations in Vancouver Island. Here's the official synopsis below:

“In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.”

From the way it reads out and as noticed by many who share like minded views, the plot sounds awfully like the recently concluded Smallville TV series, which explored Clark Kent's early beginnings and eventual transformation into the heroic icon known as Superman (though that 10 long seasons to fill out, and much of the things depicted there looked more alternate universe-like than actual canon). It'll still be almost a good two years before we see this film in theaters, but it will be interesting nonetheless to see what Zack Snyder and producer Christopher Nolan do with this iteration of the Man of Steel, especially with the notable casting decisions made (particularly Perry White being played by Laurence Fishburne). For more on the story, visit the source posts at Slash Film and Screen Rant.

Man of Steel will soar into theaters come June 14, 2013.

The Avengers Update: Earth's Mightiest Heroes are coming to SDCC 2011!

Looks like those lucky enough to attend this year's San Diego Comic Con may be in for a bit of a treat. Despite reports that Marvel won't be holding a panel presence this time around in Hall H, it appears that the cast of The Avengers are still coming and going to make their presence felt at SDCC 2011!

Via a post at Screen Rant and word from First Showing, someone from Disney has "spilled the beans" that the stars of the film adaptation of Earth's Mightiest Heroes will indeed be at the con, returning for the second year in a row after last year's geektastic "Avengers Assemble!" moment where the stars and crew walked together on stage for the first time! Even though Marvel Studios won't be holding a huge panel like they did for their movies for the past few years, there may be some things rumored to appear that fans who are attending the SDCC may want to check out, which includes signing up as a S.H.I.E.L.D member for a viral marketing campaign; Checking out set pieces from The Avengers film, which includes a recreation of the Helicarrier bridge, and bearing witness to a screening of "Captain America: The First Avenger" on the show floor... With a rumored teaser trailer of The Avengers attached to it! For more info and details, visit the source posts at Screen Rant and First Showing!

The Avengers, directed by Joss Whedon and starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Chris Hemsworth, will show in theaters on May 4, 2012!

The Dark Knight Rises Update: Footage hits web and Anne Hathaway confirmed to wear Catwoman suit!

Several sites, including Yahoo! and Screen Rant, have reported that a fan has posted a video from the set of Christoper Nolan's next epic Batman movie sequel, The Dark Knight Rises. The footage, being shot in Nottingham, England, has stars Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway assuming their roles as Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle respectively, filming a pivotal scene in the rain where the two interact as they arrive or are about to depart via cab from the newly restored Wayne Manor household. Not much can be said for the scene, and the video, uploaded in You Tube by user Bat Manor, shows the clip without any audio. You can check the above source sites links for more on the story, or take a look at the clip via this link (SPOILER MODE ON of course).

In other TDKR related news, it has been confirmed that Anne Hathaway WILL be donning the Catwoman suit after all, using the most recent and modern look Selina Kyle wears in the comics. According to a report posted in Hollywood Life and then reposted at Enewsi, the costume will be "less sexier" and look more "burglar like" than the ones worn by previous Catwoman actrors Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry, but fans and guys can rest easy knowing that the outfit will have the goggles and be form-fitted, making Hathaway "smoking hot" and "feline looking" in a role that will "take her to new places". New Captain America Poster and Thor 2 gets a release date!

Marvel.com has released this slick new international poster for Captain America: The First Avenger! It's a cool one sheet with the entire cast of the movie lined up with a maskless Chris Evans/ Captain America in the front, while a huge head of Hugo Weaving's Red Skull looks over with mean eyes over the background. You can check out more info and details from the source post at Marvel.com!

Movie blog and news site Screen Rant reports that "Thor 2" has been given a official release date, and it will appear under the Walt Disney Pictures and Marvel Entertainment banner come July 26, 2013! Yes, the God of Thunder will be joining his fellow Avenger Iron Man the following year after "Avengers" hits theaters on May 4, 2012, so since Ol' Shellhead's next sequel, "Iron Man 3", is slated for a May 3, 2013 release date, Thor 2 shows nearly three months after that! Unfortunately, Kenneth Branagh won't be returning to direct the film, so the only question now is who can follow in his footsteps? For more info, visit the source post at Screen Rant.

Captain America Update: USO costume revealed!

Anyone wanting to avoid SPOILERS best shy away from this post, because it spoils a significant nod to the comics that Captain America: The First Avenger is based on! With just a month away until the film's release, purists who don't want to know what the USO costume is can stop reading now. Otherwise, take a look and see a classic look get the movie treatment!

Via a post at Screen Rant, an image of Chris Evans dressed in Captain America's original comic book look has made its way online and is confirmed to appear in the film. It's kinda ironic to say this, but I feel it looks a lot more goofier than the actual movie costume he uses in the field. While I initially had my misgivings about the changes, I can see why Marvel Studios and the film's makers decided to overhaul Cap's suit and make it "realistic" for his battles during WWII. I can't see Steve Rogers running around in that get up unless he's willing to eat bullets and take in seconds, so I guess this is more of a nod to fans like us who appreciated the "classic cap" look in the comics rather than being implemented full time in "The First Avenger". That's not to say that Cap won't be getting a costume upgrade after he wakes up in the modern age either. As confirmed by Evans himself and through the recent reveal of the promotional merchandise poster, Cap will be getting another makeover come the time of "The Avengers", so it's a safe bet he'll be looking more "Ultimate Cap" than "Regular Cap". For more on the story, visit the source post at Screen Rant!

Captain America: The First Avenger throws his mighty shield into theaters come July 22!

New promo merchandising poster for The Avengers revealed!

Blogged over at the interwebz and posted for analysis over at Screen Rant, a promotional merchandising poster for Marvel Studios' upcoming 2012 superhero team flick "The Avengers" was shown at this year's Licensing International Expo over at Los Angeles. The poster pretty much tells us the line-up that will be appearing in the movie, as well as giving us a look at the possible costumes worn by Clint Barton/ Hawkeye, (Jeremy Renner) and Steve Rogers/ Captain America (Chris Evans) when the latter gets revived in the modern era. There's a complete and solid read at Screen Rant's post if you'd want to dissect and analyze the poster and the characters in it, so visit the source link at SR for more details!

Legal troubles threaten to divide Superman franchise...

This is both old and new news to hear about, and it will certainly affect the future of Superman in a big way.

As was reported by Variety, Slash Film, and Screen Rant, the ongoing legal battle between DC Comics and the estates of Superman's creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, may reach a point where both parties may have to split and retain certain rights and key elements to the character. What that basically means is that if things do not work out and both parties do not mutually agree to something, we may see the division of Superman entirely. He won't be wearing the iconic red, blue, and yellow costume everyone knew and grew up with due to copyright issues, and his origins may have to be changed somewhat, at least in the case of DC Universe that is. The phrase "Leaping Tall Buildings In A Single Bound" was coined by the creators, so that will go along with the costume baggage should a separation take place.

In essence, if all of this comes to pass where the respective rights revert back to their creators in 2013 (a year after Zack Snyder's Superman movie "Man of Steel" shows) we may see the birth of two distinctly different versions of "Superman". The Siegel and Shuster's estates own pretty much what makes up the original Superman when he debuted in the pages of Action Comics in 1938. DC still owns international rights, flying, and the villains attached to the character, so there may not be any obvious changes for the modern incarnation at least. However, anything new conjured up will set up grounds for another case again, and it limits both parties from exploring the alter ego of Kal-El/ Clark Kent in many other ways. For more on the story, you can visit Variety, Slash Film, or Screen Rant!

The Uncle Ben Death Scene filmed for The Amazing Spider-Man!

Movie news sites Screen Rant and SuperHeroHype have posted news and pics from the latest scene to be filmed for the movie "The Amazing Spider-Man" - The "Uncle Ben Death Scene"! This isn't much of a spoiler and comes across as common knowledge to anyone with an inkling of knowledge about the Spider-Man mythos, but consider this a SPOILER still, especially to those who want to remain "spoiler-free" for Marc Webb's Spider-Man film reboot!

The scene plays out pretty much like that in the comics and Sam Raimi's Spider-Man - Uncle Ben, played by veteran actor Martin Sheen, meets his demise at the hands of a burglar. This propels Peter Parker (played by Andrew Garfield) to hunt down the burglar as his alter ego Spider-Man, and when he eventually catches him, he finds out in horror that it's the same thief he had to opportunity to stop during a wrestling gig he entered earlier. This tragic incident teaches Peter a lifelong and valuable lesson; "With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility".

That pretty much sums up the entire nature of this scene. For more pics and info, visit the source posts at Screen Rant and SHH!

A New teaser poster, TV Spot, and French Trailer for X-Men: First Class!

Besides this new teaser poster appearing about a week or so ago, Screen Rant has posted up these cool looking X-Men: First Class trailers, one of which gives viewers a look at a very young Charles Xavier, Raven Darkholme, and Erik Lehnsherr (aka Professor X, Mystique, and Magneto respectively). It's just a quick TV Spot, but pretty awesome to check out for those short extra scenes not seen in any of the previous theatrical trailers shown already.

Rumor: The Avengers script leaked and movie delayed?

It may still be a year away, but excitement for Walt Disney Pictures and Marvel Studios' live-action film adaptation of "The Avengers" is growing bigger and bigger thanks to the fact that "Thor" is now in theaters and production for the movie has officially begun. However, a new report posted over at Screen Rant suggests a rumor that the official script for the superhero team movie may have been "leaked", which may cause the Disney/ Marvel flick to be delayed. How and why this leak happened is up to debate, but it stems from a report from website Obsessed With Film that they have gotten their hands on a leaked copy of Samuel L. Jackson's script of The Avengers, codenamed "Group Hug" by Joss Whedon, and it has since spread online like wildfire with major SPOILERS on the film's plot. What exactly those said spoilers are were thankfully not revealed in Screen Rant's post, and I'd like to save myself from knowing what the movie's about until there is official promotional material released like posters and trailers.

Again, this may sound like serious news, but until there's official confirmation from Disney or Marvel, I'll take Screen Rant's article just as it is, a rumor. Discussing things at this point would be useless, and whether the script was leaked or not, delaying production will just complicate matters and will cause the film to miss its May 4th release date next year. All we can do is hope and pray that nothing obstructs the filming process for what would be, in Robert Downey Jr's words, the "most ambitious film ever made"! For more on this rumor story, visit the source post at Screen Rant!

The Dark Knight Rises Update: Josh Pence cast in the movie

News continues to trickle down for Christopher Nolan's next epic Bat-flick "The Dark Knight Rises", and now a report from The Hollywood Reporter, which was posted in Screen Rant and Slash Film as well, suggests that a relatively new face has joined the cast to play a very familiar role in a flashback that will tie the new film to that of the first, "Batman Begins".

According to the article, Josh Pence from "The Social Network" has been cast as a younger Ra's Al Ghul, the role that legendary actor Liam Neeson played in a surprisingly awesome capacity in the first film by disguising himself as Ducard and misleading Bruce Wayne into thinking Ken Watanabe was Ra's until the final parts of the movie. While the end of Batman Begins suggests that Ra's perished in the climactic battle for the fate of Gotham City, his character will be making a return via flashbacks set some 30 years earlier to what takes place in "The Dark Knight Rises". Many rumors suggest that Inception actress Marion Cotillard may play Talia Al Ghul, the daughter of Ra's, but that hasn't been confirmed yet, nor is the other rumor that Neeson may return to reprise his role as Bat's greatest mentor/ enemy. We'll just have to wait and see how this fans out in the coming months. The movie starts shooting in May, so we'll probably get more news by then. For more on the story, visit the source posts at THR, Slash Film, and Screen Rant.

The Dark Knight Rises appears in theaters July 20, 2012.

Juno Temple is cast in The Dark Knight Rises!

As reported by movie sites like Screen Rant and following Joseph Gordon-Levitt's addition to the cast of The Dark Knight Rises (though no role has been specified yet), Warner Bros. and Christopher Nolan have officially signed in another young talent into the film, in the form of English actress Juno Temple! Like JGL, her role hasn't been specified, but rumors have been fueling around in the interwebz that she may land the part of playing a female sidekick to someone. A lot of hands point to Selina Kyle's (Anne Hathaway) partner and one-time Catwoman replacement in the comics, Holly Robinson!

If you can see where this is leading, then you'd know I'm all in favor of that role landing in Ms. Temple's lap. It's realistic and it makes more sense that Holly will be in the film, seeing as she appeared for the first time working as a prostitue alongside Selina in Batman: Year One, and Nolan draws heavy inspiration from that source material as well as other classic Bat-books. So if Juno Temple plays Holly, I'm going to be very interested in seeing how she helps Hathaway's Selina Kyle in the path to becoming the feline rogue/ adversary/ love interest of Christian Bale's Batman/ Bruce Wayne. We'll just have to wait and see for official confirmation, so for additional reading, you can visit the source post over at Screen Rant!

Marvel Movie Updates: New Iron Man Director and another Thor Trailer!

Lots of Marvel movies news have hit the interwebz this day, and it's time to get on with announcements!

Deadline and Screen Rant have just reported that Shane Black, once rumored to be one of the top candidates to fill in the vacant director's chair for Iron Man 3, has officially been named as the new director for the next sequel featuring the armored avenger. Black, whose credentials include directing Robert Downey Jr. before in the movie Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, has also served as writer for the Lethal Weapon film series, so he may just be the man for the job after Jon Favreau announced that he wouldn't be returning to direct Iron Man 3. No word yet whether or not he'll also serve as writer, but if you're still in the fence as to whether or not Black can deliver, the director/ writer has also been approached to direct treatments of Doc Savage and an americanized version of Death Note. Now if that's not confidence placed in the right hands, I don't know what it. For more info, visit the source posts over at Deadline and Screen Rant!

Next up, Yahoo! Movies has debuted a new trailer for Marvel Studios' first new superhero flick due this May, Thor! It features new footage of the God of Thunder (Played by Chris Hemsworth) and everyone else around his circle, most especially Odin (played by Anthony Hopkins) who manages to show his fighting side in the trailer! For more on the scoop, visit the source post at Screen Rant, and you can check it out here via Yahoo! Movies!
