Movie Review | The Rise of Skywalker

12.21.2019 – Finally, it is the last chapter of the nine-part Skywalker Saga. The film has very limited release in the Philippines from 20 22 December 2019 due to the annual MMFF (Metro Manila Film Festival), but had enough window for most Star Wars to see in the big screen before it gets replaced by locally produced films that is featured throughout the Holiday Season. The Rise of Skywalker resumes local screen date in the country by 8 January 2020.

It was one of the most anticipated films to close the saga; the other was from Marvel’s highly successful Infinity Saga that closed out with Avengers: Endgame that was shown in late April 2019. For Star Wars, it was a different emotional ride that nearly divided the fandom after The Last Jedi (2017). This time around since JJ Abrams back in the director’s chair fans hope that it will right the ship from the previous film.

The Rise of Skywalker is now perfect and most would suggest lowering your expectations to see this due to the ramifications of the previous film.

Triple Force Friday | Aftermath Sunday

10.08.2019 – It has become sort of tradition to Star Wars fans to attend the Celebration and when it comes to the merchandise launch it was Force Friday starting way back when Force Awakens was introduced as the continuation to the official canon for the blockbuster franchise.

Triple Friday had happened and was launched midnight of Friday 4 October 2019, but the fans had trooped Thursday night to this annual revelry for the toys, merchandise and anything Star Wars in-between. It was done but that doesn’t mean you missed everything. For the casual fans there’s still more that can be relished.

Obi-Wan & Anakin #4: Between Crossfire!

05.01.2016 – “Obi-Wan & Anakin” heading to its fourth issue slowly revealing its hand with regards to the inhabitants of Carnelion IV and in-between the main story are some flashbacks revealing Anakin’s desire to leave the Jedi Temple. This of course is one of Palpatine’s influences in the young padawan.

In the previous issue the ‘Open’ faction with Mother Pran and Kolara found Anakin’s abilities to fixing mechanical things a great benefit for their cause, where they decided to kidnap him at the same time destroy the airship which have Obi-Wan and ‘Close’ faction Grecker crashing down to the lower ground of the planet.

Surviving the crash in the previous issue reveal the inhabitants of zombie-like creatures that where affected after the war that produced the two factions some years ago. Obi-Wan and Grecker face-off with these creatures, but the Jedi Master was quick enough to prevent them from ganging up on them. At the same time after the crash both survivors try to find the signal originally sent to the Jedi that called upon Obi-Wan and Anakin. Grecker discussing his opinions about the ‘Open’ faction’s true colors does not give validation if he’s actually telling the truth.

Star Wars | Poe Dameron: Black Squadron!

04.27.2016 – Poe Dameron is considered the greatest pilot the Resistance has ever had and only a few stories prior to the “Force Awakens” have been told about the character. Finally Marvel publishes his first solo series and takes a closer look at the characters that where seen in the films.

If you haven’t read the origin of Poe Dameron’s parents it was in the “Shattered Empire” mini-series, but there’s not much of a back story to know more about Poe himself not until Episode VII was shown in cinemas to find out how important the character was to the narrative that made Star Wars the hottest movie franchise.

In “Poe Dameron #1” it is revealed that General Leia Organa has ordered the best pilot in the Resistance in a secret mission. It’s in the same theme that C-3PO has gone about regarding the origin of his red arm. For Poe, the special mission he’s been given is to search for Luke Skywalker and it also expands the introduction of the “Black Squadron” a handpicked unit of X-Wing Fighters that where in action shown in the film. But this also explores each pilot’s personalities as expanded and how they make up to be known as this exceptional heroes who where part of the Resistance.

Star Wars | C-3PO: The Phantom Limb!

04.16.2016 – “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is coming out for the home release and if you’ve seen the film several times you’ve been wondering about C-3PO’s red arm. It’s been almost five months since the film was shown and there’s nothing about this droid‘s limb replacement.

There there’s a back story behind it as previously teased but it wasn’t specified if it’s going to be told in the next film or even in a novelized version. But give LucasFilms the effort that its all planned out that it would be told in the one-shot Star Wars comicbook special that features C-3PO, and his one-time exploits in the galaxy far away and not only that you see something you’ve never see in the character before.

This comicbook is a tie-up to the film itself and reveals where C-3PO has been and where he got that red arm, which for some fans has been wondering for the whole time. Besides the back story behind it you get to view the character’s struggles and how he manage to survive in this one-shot story written by James Robinson and with art done by the talented Tony Harris, which makes this an issue you should not miss.

Obi-Wan & Anakin #3: Treachery in Carnelion IV!

03.27.2016 – Obi-Wan and Anakin mini-series expands the dynamics between both Jedi. This also reveals further how Chancellor Palpatine corrupted the young Skywalker to the darkside. There’s so much to tell about the master and his apprentice in an alien world that have its conflicts.

Carnelion IV is still a world that have little back story as Obi-Wan and Anakin continue to explore this side of the galaxy that have two warring factions work together. But that peace will be short-lived as there are things behind the scenes is happening at the same time that not everyone is aware and in that includes flash back to the past when Anakin was invited by Palpatine for a short walk.

Charles Soule shares the narrative about exploring further between Obi-Wan and Anakin’s relationship. Marco Checchetto provides the artwork that consistently brings the feel of the time both Jedis where in their prime. This is before Anakin’s lure to the darkside as history is told, but that story is already happening with the relationship with Chancellor Palpatine and his interest to the young Padawan.

Obi-Wan & Anakin #2: Unfamiliar World!

02.04.2016 – The dynamic between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker hasn’t been explored in comicbooks before. It was with Quigon Jinn that was featured during the younger days of Obi-Wan as the Padawan himself. But this happened before the Expanded Universe was canon that became “Star Wars Legends.”

The premise for this mini-series didn’t give anymore details as to who called upon Obi-Wan and Anakin to make the travel to Carnelion IV a planet full of mystery and dangerous natives hardly known in this part of the sector. The first issue showed that they are marooned in this planet that has warring factions of natives trying to kill each other due to their mysterious beliefs.

While the mission is to find out who sent the distress beacon for two Jedis sent to this planet this also explores the relationship between master and padawan in the days before the destruction of the Old Republic. The narrative written by Charles Soule with art provided by Marco Chechetto gives you a different look of the characters in their Manga-style artwork not too-cartoonish but definitely stands out.
