Darth Revan

Presenting Darth Revan from the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Video Game. Darth "I make Vader look like a baby Ewok" Revan was released as part of the Star Wars 30th Anniversary Coin Collection set - that took me more than three years to complete - along with his best friend, later apprentice, later betrayer and first ever "Meatbag", Darth Malak. They both came with very nice coins.

The funny - and oftentimes kinda  sad part about this figure is that... well I always though Darth Revan was a woman. She certainly was a woman when I played KOTOR, and she was still a woman when she was referred to in KOTOR II.

Somewhere down the line, someone in either Dark Horse Comics or Hasbro - or perhaps George Lucas himself - decided that Darth Revan was a man.

Spoiler Alert: Warner Bros. confirms the return of a character in The Dark Knight Rises

It's not much of big news considering it was reported some months back, but now official confirmation has arrived via Warner Bros. of the return of a character in Christopher Nolan's Batman film franchise, who's set to appear once more in his third and final film "The Dark Knight Rises". Anyone who's read the related posts to this previously will know who's being talked about. Otherwise, consider this SPOILER territory, and you wouldn't want to find yourselves there if you want to keep the surprise intact.

The Avengers: Captain America Goliath Assault Tank

Presenting Captain America's Goliath Assault Tank from the Avengers Movie Toy-line. No one knows if he'll actually be driving one in the movie.

Whenever someone mentions the name Goliath, the image that immediately pops to mind is not anyone from the Marvel or DC universe, but a very deep voice that goes "Goliath On-line" followed by the appearance of a menacing anti-aircraft/anti-personnel bipedal walker (Ain't Starcraft cool?)

So I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed that Captain America's Goliath is so.... small - though size doesn't matter (So they say).

The Avengers: German poster appears online

Via Comic Book Movie and site Prosieben.at, the German poster for Walt Disney Pictures and Marvel Studios' superhero blockbuster summer flick "The Avengers" has appeared online... and looks rather simple compared to the other posters that have been churned out. It still puts Tony Stark/ Iron Man on the center, and the only noticeable differences being the poses of Black Widow, Captain America, Hawkeye, and the addition of The Hulk beside Bruce Banner. For more information, visit the source post at Comic Book Movie and Prosieben.at.

The Avengers assemble in theaters this May 4.

Marvel Universe: Spider-Woman

Presenting Spider-Woman from the Marvel Universe toy-line. Spider-Woman is has one of the most convoluted origins in the Marvel Universe - with an origin that's more complicated than Wolverine's.

Jessica Drew AKA Spider Woman was born sometime at the turn of the 20th century in London, England (Today she's American by naturalization). She was exposed to radiation from Wundagore Mountain - home of the High Evolutionary and his Knights. Dying from the radiation, her father injected her with an experimental Spider Serum which had no affect on her till the High Evolutionary put her in a genetic accelerator. She was released decades later at the apparent age of only 17. Leaving Wundagore Mountain, she was recruited by Hydra and all the brainwashing and manipulation between Hydra and SHIELD began.

The problem is, there's another Origin Story about her that Marvel released which did away with the radiation story and instead said that while her mom was struck by a laser beam with trace Spider DNA while Jessica was being conceived. The manipulation and brainwashing after that is the only constant.

For a while it was even established the Madame Hydra was really her mother.

Today Spider-Woman is one of Captain America's Avengers - the premiere public team, not the street level team of Luke Cage.

First Look: Stephen Amell as Green Arrow for CW's "Arrow"

Tvline.com has released the very first "first look" image of actor Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen/ Green Arrow for the new upcoming superhero TV series by The CW called "Arrow".
Considering it's based on the DC Comics' emerald archer, it does have an odd title. Nevertheless, it's going to be a "darker and hard-edged show", as executive producer David Nutter points out.

Also released is the official synopsis for the new TV series, which goes like this:

"After being marooned for five years on a remote island, former billionaire playboy Oliver Queen returns with a mysterious agenda and a lethal set of new skills that he uses in a war on crime."

While it has no relation to the other Warner Bros. and CW TV series Smallville, Arrow will follow the same path of retelling Green Arrow's origins and adventures in his early years. For more info, visit the source posts at tvline.com, Comic Book Movie, and Io9

G.I. Joe Renegades Airtight

Presenting from Airtight the GI Joe Renegades Hostile Environment Specialist. The original Airtight is the second G.I Joe to come into my possession way back in the 80s and I was in love with him because of the "Spaceman" look of his uniform and gear - till I realized that he was walking around with a vacuum cleaner. Thirty years later Hasbro reintroduces Airtight in the same environmental suit, but with an entirely different history as they tie him into the G.I. Joe Renegades cartoon.

Corporal Kurt Schnurr CBR (Chemical, Biological and Radiological Warefare) and Ordnance specialist AKA Airtight is now Doctor Kurt Schnurr, a civilian Biochemist. Both are from New Haven Connecticut.

The civilian Dr. Kurt Schnurr actually starts out working with Cobra in the G.I. Joe Renegades cartoon. Together with Dr. Monev (Really? Couldn't figure out that there was something wrong with his name huh?) they develop the Anaconda Strain virus which turns mammals into reptiles. Dr. Monev infects Airtight and the Joes come to rescue him on the behest of Airtight's daughter, Elena.

They rescue him and administer the cure to the Anaconda Strain. The bad news is, the Joes were fooled into rescuing Airtight. Unbeknownst to all... it's a trap! Airtight had been infected for too long a period that he was no longer showing symptoms but was spreading the virus. The Joes rush again to rescue him and Airtight is forced to permanently wear his containment suit while he struggles to find a permanent cure for Anaconda.

David Finch Last Day Signing at Fully Booked!

03.19.2012 – It was the last day David Finch appears exclusively at Fully Booked. They where a few minutes behind schedule when he started his talk past 3PM where he had a live art in making Moon Knight as his topic with layers of detail in it.

Comic Odyssey had a selling section in-between the elevator and the escalator which had some of Finch’s previous work at Marvel. Sandy mentioned how gratifying for him to have this experience here as each person who had brought something for him to sign had a memorable photo that day.

03.18.2012 – David Finch is finally in Manila! We thought he won’t make it until the news that highlighted the cancellation of his tour. This was about his passport forgotten to be renewed but unlike in the Philippines where you have to go through a lot just to apply one he had it updated in a week.

Earlier at 11AM Finch sat with bloggers for a special interview and the sub group of Justice PH known as Gotham Nights which provided flair to the event that was billed as one of Fully Booked’s biggest draw since Neil Gaiman conquered the wall of sound in 2005.

Announced by Comic Odyssey earlier in the day, Fully Booked has officially announced via their Tumblr page that DC Comics artist David Finch will be coming to Manila, Philippines on March 17 and 18 to meet and greet fans at the bookstore's branch at Bonifacio High Street. This comes after last week's unfortunate news, where unforeseen circumstances had to force Mr. Finch to miss his scheduled tour for March 11, 12, and 13. Now the man behind Batman: The Dark Knight  is really coming this time, and anyone living in Manila who's a fan of his works and comics will surely want to plan their weekends for this!

Here's the official announcement from Fully Booked themselves via Tumblr!

Environmental Friendly with Dr.Seuss' The Lorax!

03.12.2012 – Dr. Seuss The Lorax was shown in North America on March 2, 2012 and the special press media screening in the Philippines was held on Mach 11, 2012 at the IMAX Theater in SM North Edsa where kids and parents greeted the “walking peanut” mascot with lots of photo opportunity.

The screening did not start until the program ended with the performance by students who composed a song about saving the environment and other festivities with the theme that also supported by Green Peace Philippines which is promoting Earth Day 2012. The film that was shown was in IMAX 3D with special thanks to SM Cinemas for bringing this event yesterday Sunday afternoon.

Comic Quest in SM North Edsa now on its new location!

03.12.2012 – If you happen to be in the area of Quezon City chances are you’re a frequent mall visitor of SM North Edsa. Surely if you’re a comic book reader you might be a regular at Comic Quest which is one of the oldest shops in the business who still brings the latest titles on the shelf.

They are also into selling other merchandise such as toys, collectibles and exclusive action figures. This also includes imported shirts and special edition never released DVDs or Blu-Ray discs in the Philippines. If you frequently travel less to these parts of Quezon City try to check the CQ branch.

Dr. Seuss' The Lorax Press Media Screening Coverage!

03.11.2012 – Fresh from Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax the event was greeted by kids and parents at the IMAX Theater in SM North Edsa.

The venue was decked with photo booths and mini exhibits featuring environmental friendly artwork creations by the kids who contributed to this event.

There was also a booth by Green Peace Philippines since the animated movie’s message is all about the environment and saving the trees is one of the themes. The event was hosted by GNN’s Suit Up girl Marybeth Nave who greeted the visitors with her bubbly personality.

Marvel's Avengers toy launch at Toy Kingdom!

03.11.2012 – The Philippine launch of the Avengers toys and merchandise based from the upcoming movie with the same title that will be shown on April 25, 2012 was welcomed with less stellar billing unlike what Toy Kingdom with Star Wars last month.

There was still support from a fan group who masquerade as their favorite Marvel characters. The area which they had launched the toys were like less than one third of the place they had with Star Wars. Its enough to attract the local casual collecting community to get the word out the toys has made it to the Philippine retail stores.

Fully Booked: Important Update on David Finch in Manila

I'd thought I'd share this bit of breaking news to everyone who was looking forward to seeing DC Comics artist and writer David Finch in Manila from March 11, 12, and 13. Via Fully Booked's official website, here's the announcement:

IMPORTANT UPDATE:

David Finch in Manila Dear Customers and David Finch Fans,

Thank you all for your enthusiasm and support for David Finch's visit! We regret to inform you that his visit to Manila this March 11-13 will no longer push through. David was already at the airport, checked-in, and ready to board the plane, when it was discovered that his passport expires in June of this year. Since a passport needs to be valid for at least 6 months to travel, David was not allowed to board the plane.

We share your disappointment at this turn of events. Likewise, David is also regretful as he is very much excited to meet his fans here.

David Finch will definitely still come to Manila, but at a later date. Please stay tuned for details.

UPDATE 2 From Timzster and Justice PH:

To those who read Fully Booked's announcement on David Finch,

I'm sure you've read the update by now, and it's unfortunate news indeed that the DC Comics artist won't be able to attend his scheduled tour. However, I and the rest of Gotham PH (Justice Ph) and Gotham Madness will still be in Bonifacio High Street tomorrow to make the most of things and do what we do best - suit up and entertain as the heroes we've come to admire and love reading in comics. We'll be there in full force as the Batman family and his accompanying Rogues Gallery, so expect to see the likes of The Dark Knight, Nightwing, Red Robin, Robin, Batgirl, The Joker, Harley Quinn, Scarecrow, Poison Ivy, and more.

I have been informed by Fully Booked themselves that we'll be giving some Batman stuff to those still going tomorrow. Mr. Finch may not be around, but treat it as a gathering of the local Batman cosplay community if you will, and feel free to take pictures with us if you're in the area! If any of you still want to pass by and have some fun with the family, here's a good reason to take them to Bonifacio Global City and Fully Booked tomorrow.:)

 Tim/ Timzster

UPDATE 3: (Sat 1:55pm)

Just got final word from Fully Booked on the cosplay appearance of Gotham PH (Justice Ph) and Gotham Madness. Sorry fellas, that's been postponed until the time David Finch actually visits.:(

Any developments or updates arrive, I'll post it here, and check on the official Fully Booked site for details.

DC Comics unveils Jim Lee's FCBD New 52 Cover

DC Comics has unveiled the cover fans will undoubtedly talk about and want: Jim Lee's cover artwork to their Free Comic Book Day book entitled DC Comics The New 52 FCBD Edition! Besides illustrating the cover you see above, Lee will also illustrate five pages of the free book being given away on May 5, 2012, including a four-page gatefold that introduces a new storyline for Justice League, a book that he and writer Geoff Johns have launched and are currently doing for The New 52!

As Co-Publisher of DC Entertainment, Lee's work has been highly valued in the comic book world, and he's known for his works in comic books such as Wildcats, X-Men, Batman: Hush, and now Justice League. As a fan of his works, this is a stellar cover featuring the trinity of DC heroes - Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. Right at the background is the mysterious Pandora, who was first introduced in the pre-New 52 storyline Flashpoint and has been seen watching events from behind the scenes. One has to wonder what kind of story the New 52 FCBD will provide besides being a primer of the new DC Universe. We can only wait and see until it comes out, absolutely for free, on May 5th, Saturday this year! For more info, visit the source post at DC The Source!

03.06.2012 – The Lorax is the fourth creation of Dr. Seuss to be made into the big screen (behind The Grinch who stole Christmas, Horton Hears a Who!, and Cat in the Hat). It’s the 33rd book that was published in 1971. Originally the book that Dr. Seuss wrote was adapted into a musical television special first aired in CBS on February 14, 1972. The line about Lake Erie was spoken by one of the Humming-Fish as they marched out of the river at the foot of the Once-ler's factory. It remains in DVD releases of the show, even though the line was later removed from the book.
