Conversations With | Billy Tan [Exclusive]

During the Asia Pop Comic Con in Manila, I got to meet and interview Billy Tan. A Malaysian-American, he is one of the few Asian artists that made it big in the comic book industry.

His notable work on the flagship title for Green Lantern starting with issue #21 with writer Robert Venditti who took over Geoff Johns as the writer would garner further attention in his career.

Hal Jordan & the Green Lantern Corps #1 | Forged.

07.20.2016 – Hal Jordan is the greatest Green Lantern of all time, and he has been through a lot. Geoff Johns is one of the best writers in comics who breathe life to Hal Jordan following his fall out as Parallax and becoming The Spectre. Johns gave Hal Jordan his life back through the ‘Green Lantern: Rebirth’ series.

Geoff Johns is connected to Green Lantern as he wrote an entire run about them.

Not only did he write the stories for Hal Jordan, but also the entire world that is one part of the DC Universe and he became synonymous with it until his last story.

There has been writers who took over Johns has he got promoted to DC Comics to head out bigger things. Some new readers would probably go back to the previous books to find out what really happened to OA and the rest of the Green Lantern Corps.

If you’re a casual reader you might not need to as you start fresh with “Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps: Rebirth #1.”

Comic Book Review: DC The New 52 #1

Technically this isn't a "comic book" per se, but with all the hype and buzz building up, plus the fact that it has a #1 numbering attached to it, I have every reason to believe that DC Comics may start producing a series of "preview books" each month that are similar to the competition (i.e Marvel Previews). So without further ado, let's begin the review proper.

Since the big announcement last month that they were going to revamp the universe and relaunch majority of their books, DC Comics has earned both the ire and admiration of its entire fanbase. After over 70 years of publishing comics and characters that have remained mostly true and unchanged in structure, the publisher (under the direction of co-publishers Dan Didio and Jim Lee) has decided to give a complete makeover to their titles and heroes, paving the way for a bold and new direction which they have dubbed "The New 52".

Movie Review: Green Lantern

After honoring an oath of silence and seeing advanced screenings of film twice in two distinguished premieres earlier this week, words can be said about DC Comics and Warner Bros. latest superhero movie, Green Lantern. Being a fan of the character and comics myself, my initial reactions to the film adaptation of one of the world's most beloved comic book heroes can now be told, and it will certainly be a very detailed and biased review. SPOILERS are here obviously, so if you're looking to shy away from them, best turn away now. Otherwise, step into the world of green energy and harness as much willpower as you can to read through my analysis of this new hero flick and get an idea of just who the man with the power ring is. Thanks again goes to Warner Bros. PH for the movie screenings!

Create your own Green Lantern via the "Green Lantern Creator"!

While visiting the official Green Lantern website, I stumbled upon this "Green Lantern Creator" link that allows you to make your very own GL Corps member! Customization however is severely limited, and you can only mix and match body parts of established alien Green Lanterns (sorry fans, no Hal Jordan/ Human type for you to exploit with). Still, the prospect of making your own GL is kinda fun, and after you finish the deed, you can download your creation on Facebook or as a desktop wallpaper! Check out what I did!

Yeah, it's Stel's head attached with the body of a regular GL, and the name's an obvious reference to a certain Autobot leader, but I liked how it also references my name somewhat. Anyhoo, it's also fun to tinker around with this just as Green Lantern week heats up, so visit the official GL website to check this out and some more goodies!

Random Trips - Green Lantern Light Up Party!

On Friday June 3, 2011, Warner Bros. Philippines and Ayala Malls held a special commemorative "Green Lantern Light Up Party" in anticipation for the worldwide release of "Green Lantern", the film adaptation of the DC Comics' superhero that stars Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan!

Together with my pal Mark, we covered the event, bearing witness to a gathering of several GL fans and cosplayers as they assembled in Glorietta 4 and made their way to the Glorietta Park, where a large propped up Green Lantern symbol stood and waited to be lit up. This video chronicles the entire experience from start to finish, and after lighting up the symbol, we were treated to an after party in the G4 food court where Krispy Kreme unveiled their GL tie-up promotional product - The Green Lantern Kreme Donut! Check out what went down in the video embed below!

Batman and Green Lantern Movie Updates: Tom Hardy as Bane Pic, a new GL 3D Trailer, and a Batman Live! Trailer!!

Some new updates have appeared for two of Warner Bros. most anticipated superhero films and their newest stage show based on one of the greatest heroes of all time! First up comes another new and slick looking Green Lantern trailer, which is called the"3D Trailer" and is by far the most slick and epic looking among the group! Check it below!

Green Lantern 3D Trailer

Next up, The Dark Knight Rises viral marketing campaign has begun, and with that comes a couple of teasers for fans to drool over! The official website, www.thedarkknightrises.com, is live and up, but it only has a blank screen that eventually becomes a wav file with a chant playing in the background. However, the most interesting part is it's a Twitter Hashtag that reads "The Fire Rises", and when it's tweeted, it reveals this very image you see below... Tom Hardy as Bane! Check out more info from Slash Film if you want to delve deeper into the mystery!
Finally, we end the post with a trailer for the newest stage show based on the Dark Knight's world that is travelling the globe to entertain legions of fans and newbies alike: The "Batman Live!" show!

Green Lantern Update: Wonder-Con Footage online and a new poster revealed!

Warner Bros. has been a little quiet in regards to promoting their newest DC superhero flick coming out this year, Green Lantern, but all that changed when the weekend brought about this year's Wondercon in Las Vegas, which gave the makers and its primary cast a chance to talk about the film and screen some new sneak peek footage that fans in attendance really got excited about! Before we get into details about that report, a new poster also made its debut to coincide with the promotions!

Now this poster looks more intriguing than the initial ones presented before! It's a wonder how Ryan Reynolds could make the film work after initial reactions to the first trailer were mixed, but there's renewed promise that the film may just do well after everything that went down at the Wondercon. Basically, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively were in attendance at the GL Panel and answered a lot of questions concerning the film and its content. For one thing, it's confirmed that a new trailer will be shown in screenings of Thor, so those looking forward to more GL action before the film arrives in June should be excited for this news. Secondly, both stars went on to describe how they prepared for their roles in the movie, as well as inquiries concerning the story and what the future holds for Mr. Reynolds in regards to other superhero flicks *wink wink*. I won't spoil the details, but if you want to know the breakdown of what happened, you can check out the details at Slash Film, or see an uploaded vid of the presscon via YouTube (while it's still up that is). Oh, and there's the abridged version of the footage screened courtesy of Apple, so check it out now before anything else! SPOILER MODE ON HERE!

Update: It's also on You Tube now. Check out the Wondercon Footage!

Geoffrey Rush voices Tomar-Re in Green Lantern!

After delivering amazing roles in flicks like the award-winning movie The King Speech and The Pirates of the Caribbean series, legendary actor Geoffrey Rush can now add superhero to his list of credentials, as websites Bleeding Cool and Hero Complex now report that he is slated to voice the role of Tomar-Re, one of the more distinguished and well known aliens that make up the infamous space police force known as the Green Lantern Corps, who are set to appear alongside Ryan Reynolds' Hal Jordan in June's epic superhero sci-fi flick - Green Lantern!
The news comes as a fresh and pleasant surprise, since Geoffrey Rush's performance in The King's Speech as mentor/ teacher/ speech therapist Bertie was one of the most dynamic roles I've ever witnessed in the history of cinema, not to mention his performances as the swashbuckling and calculating rival of Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean, Barbossa! He'll fit right and well voicing Tomar-Re, the signature "Chicken Fish" looking Lantern who serves as one of the many mentors and allies Hal Jordan encounters in his travels as a Green Lantern in the movie! Rumors also have it that a second trailer is due with screenings of Thor, and that Michael Clark Duncan may voice the great GL drill instructor Kilowog (another perfect fit if it's true!), but that news hasn't been confirmed just yet. For now, we can be assured of another great performance with Geoffrey Rush on board. For more info and confirmation on his role as Tomar-Re, visit the source posts over at Bleeding Cool and Hero Complex!
